New branding, developments and upcoming events are the more notable developments of the Killeen Economic Development Corporation in the past few months.
The corporation provided its quarterly update to the Killeen City Council Tuesday afternoon.
The corporation changed its logo. Previously, it was the letters “KEDC” with a white background and some excess. Now, in a way, it very much resembles the city of Killeen’s “K” logo that has a red stripe running through it. For this logo, it has half of a yellow flower adjacent to the “K” along with some yellow involved in the otherwise dark blue “KEDC.”
“We’ve updated the brand logo,” said Tyler Robert, vice president.
He explained that the new logo is designed to connect people and purpose and show that while Killeen is locally rooted, it has a global reach.
Other issues Robert discussed had positives to show.
“This past quarter has been very good to us,” he said.
Killeen Councilmember Jessica Gonzalez has an opportunity to see Robert and the corporation holistically at the Association of the United States Army’s annual meeting recently. She described Robert as a “champion” and “cheerleader” for the city based on what she saw.
“I appreciate you,” she told Robert.
The corporation is planning to hold events in April and the first quarter of 2026 that will provide updates to the populace. The Killeen Business Park is also nearing max capacity; Robert explained that multiple agreements have been made there to fill vacant rental buildings and build a new establishment.
The corporation is also establishing a new park near Texas A&M University-Central Texas. Mayor Debbie Nash-King asked about that and why there is no major manufacturing plants in Killeen.
“Land will always be the issue Killeen faces,” Robert said.
He explained that the current park lacks any 10-acre spots and described it as “fairly built out.” The new space, he explained, will help diversify the local economy. By building the new park, Killeen plans to provide land with infrastructure access. Robert did explain that this is a long-term project. Wolf Technology Park has around 95 acres in space and is planned to inhabit an area in south Killeen.
“We want to make sure we’re well positioned at the end of the day,” Robert said.
